Abstract
Vulval pruritus, i.e. itching of the vulva, is a common complaint that many women will experience at least once in their lifetime. Patients with these symptoms will usually consult their usual doctor or general practitioner, but they are also often encountered in secondary care. An accurate diagnosis relies on a thorough history and examination. A vulval biopsy may be useful if there is any diagnostic uncertainty. The causes of vulvar pruritus include infection, dermatoses, vulval intraepithelial neoplasia and malignancy.
