POGP are delighted to announce the welcome return of its popular MSK conditions in pregnancy course for those seeking to expand their practice in this area. It develops the learning gained in the POGP entry level course: The Childbearing Year.
POGP believe that your learning from this course will be greatly enhanced if you have attended the ‘Pregnancy Related Physiotherapy: the child bearing year - an entry-level course’ before participating in this MSK course. If you have not attended the Childbearing Year course then we recommend that you have a reasonable knowledge and clinical experience in the field of obstetrics and pelvic health.
This course will cover:
a contemporary understanding of pain science and implications for pregnancy
special cases and obstetric red flags (a must for anyone working in obstetrics or keen to work with pregnant women)
the most up to date evidence for the assessment and treatment of pelvic girdle pain, low back pain, rectus abdominus diastasis and more.
It is a blended learning programme including self-directed online learning supported by two live evening sessions. The course culminates with a practical 2-day face to face teaching workshop.
The zoom sessions will be live and interactive and an opportunity to ask questions and discuss some of the challenges with this patient cohort.
The zoom sessions will not have repeated content and will include:
Pain and implications for pregnancy and postpartum
Rectus abdominus diastasis (DRAM) a full and comprehensive teaching
Subjective assessment of the pregnant patient
Pelvic girdle pain - everything you thought you needed to know and more!
A timetable of content and timings will be sent closer to the day.
It will not be possible to record the content of the day so attendance is required in real time in order to complete the workshop.
Course Goals:
1. To prepare physiotherapists in being safe when working with pregnancy.
2. To encourage physiotherapists to be curious with their learning, their patients and their treatment choices.
