Dr Jo Laycock

POGP join with the global pelvic health community in mourning the passing of Dr Jo Laycock following the announcement of her death yesterday.

Jo was for so many the starting point of their pelvic health career and almost everyone will have a story to share of learning from Jo and being part of her passion to make pelvic health matter.

Jo recognised from the start that patient-centred care was important and that research was essential to build the evidence base and supporting science for future generations of women and professionals.

Jo was endlessly generous with her time, resources and enthusiasm for all aspects of continence and pelvic health physiotherapy research and clinical practice. She was one of the first pelvic health physiotherapists to have a PhD in the subject and the PERFECT scale remains the most widely used measure of pelvic floor muscle function. She was honoured in 1993 with a Fellowship from CSP, in 2001 with an OBE, and again in 2011 with the ICS Lifetime Achievement Award.

POGP will publish a further tribute to Jo but at this time want to send our very best to her family and her community in her beloved Cumbria.
